HAPPY 2016

The years slip by like pages in a book. It’s January – a new beginning – and before we know it, it’s December again. We go to work, to school, take care of our families, do what is necessary – what is expected of us. This is all good, but we need to remember to enjoy our lives as well. This is important – to us, to those we love, and to those around us. We who live in Brunswick County, NC have the best of all worlds as our many visitors will tell you. The ocean is here – always – not just in the summer. It is our constant companion.

Southport is a walking meditation in the off season. We can begin at Waterfront Park where at any time of the year you can park your car and enjoy the view. You might sit on a swing or stroll down to the City Pier where most every day someone is fishing. You can walk through the tree lined streets, visit history in the Old Brunswick County Jail or the peace of the Old Smithville Burying Ground.

You might stop at the Southport Visitors’ Center (it’s not just for visitors), check out the museum and pick up a brochure for the Southport Trail which will guide you on a two mile walk through the town and its attractions. And don’t forget to enjoy nature’s free show of sunrises and sunsets.
