CARS, 1/2 MARATHON, MUSIC AND THE EARTH

T.here are lots of events to choose from this weekend in Brunswick County, NC and the fun begins on Thursday evening. At 7:30 PM, the Brunswick Concert Band will give the first performance of their Spring Concert at Brunswick Community College Odell Williamson Auditorium in Bolivia, NC.

On Friday, you can celebrate this wonderful planet on which we live at the Oak Island Earth Day event in Middleton Park, Oak Island, NC. The event will run from 10 AM until 2 PM and will include a variety of hands on activities and displays.

If you live up Leland, NC way, you might want to check out their Plant Giveaway on Saturday Morning beginning at 10 AM. You can beautify your property for free.

The fun of Saturday’s Oak Island Lighthouse 1/2 Marathon 10K/5K Run/Walk will actually begin on Friday evening at 5 PM with the Packet Pickup and Onsite Registration at Middleton Park in Oak Island, NC. The races will begin on Saturday at 7:30 AM, but start times are staggered depending on which race you choose to enter.

If you are planning Saturday morning shopping in Shallotte, NC, you can enjoy the Bash at the Beach at the same time. This event, held at the Home Depot Shopping Center by the Tri-Beach Cruisers Car Club, is especially fun for car enthusiasts – or might make you into one.

The Brunswick Concert Band will reprise their Spring Concert at Hatch Auditorium in Caswell Beach, NC on Saturday at 3 PM, so don’t despair if you are unable to make the
Thursday concert. Enthusiasts may even want to attend both concerts. Either way, donations will be gratefully accepted at these free concerts.

A PACKED WEEKEND!

There is no excuse to stay at home this weekend in the NC Brunswick Islands. It’s packed with events – all kinds of things from which to choose. From fishing to festivals to galas to boat shows to races – you can take your pick starting on Friday, September 26 and continuing into Saturday, September 27 with the Bay Creek Classic fishing tournament (http://southport.insiderinfo.us/annual-events/september/bay-creek-classic/profile/) at the Fish Factory Road Boat Ramp in Southport, NC.

On Saturday, September 27 you can enjoy the Brunswick County Intercultural Festival at Brunswick Community College (http://southport.insiderinfo.us/annual-events/september/brunswick-county-intercultural-festival/profile/).

On Saturday afternoon, you can participate in the Oak Island Moose Lodge Oktoberfest featuring The Harbour Towne Fest Band and including dinner. (http://www.oakislandmoose.com/).

North Carolina 4th of July Festival

The NC 4th of July Festival in Southport and Oak Island, NC is a joyous event with fun activities for the whole family. It is an old fashioned celebration that continues the traditions of a parade, an arts and crafts event, food vendors, patriotic concerts, music, dancing, games, foot races, a naturalization ceremony, a beach day and fireworks over the water to top it off.

The event opens on Saturday, June 28, with at 7:45 AM at Waterfront Park in Southport, NC just prior to the Freedom Run. (http://southport.insiderinfo.us/sports-fitness-parks/races/nc-fourth-of-july-festival-freedom-run/profile/)

Firing of Thor, the cannon, begins this race which has been taking place annually for more than 30 years. A color outburst is included this year and all winners will receive a hand made bowl by local potter, Kimberly Caroon.  

Music for the event will include a Patriotic Concert by the Brunswick Concert Band.

In Addition, the 440th Army Band NC Army National Guard will present a military concert and a whole list of bands will provide music on the waterfront. These include the popular local band, Mike’s Garage Band. There will be Folk and Gospel music as well as Rock, Blues, Reggae, Hip Hop and Rap.
