The weekend will soon be upon us and this weekend promises to be filled with opportunities for family fun outdoors. Leave the technology at home and enjoy each other in beautiful Brunswick County, NC. On Saturday morning, Spring Lake Park, in Boiling Spring Lakes, NC, will ring with the sounds of children (ages 3-12) enjoying a day of fishing with local police officers at the Small Fry Fishing Tournament. Competitions, raffles and more events will be available as well.
In Oak Island, NC, both Saturday and Sunday, women will be doing the fishing and learning all about the best ways to do it. Women Anglers in Training, a ladies only fishing seminar, will be held both days. On Sunday they will get to put what they learned into practice. Look out guys, here they come.
On Saturday, in Southport, NC, you can take part in the Southport Nature Fest, another opportunity for the family to spend the day together outdoors. There is a whole list of events from which to choose beginning at 7 AM and continuing until 3 PM. Some events do require pre-registration.
Holden Beach, NC welcomes spring again this weekend with their annual festival: Days at the Docks. This two day festival is filled with fun things for the whole family to do. If you have something else to do on Saturday, you can attend on Sunday and vice versa. It’s definitely worth the drive to enjoy this fun filled festival.
School is out! We, in Brunswick County, NC are very lucky that there are lots of outdoor activities to keep kids busy during the summer as well as a safe environment in which they can do them. The abundance of water features offers so may opportunities like swimming, surfing, paddle boarding, kayaking, riding a ski-do, seining for bait and fishing. On the beach they can go shelling, build sand castles, play with sand toys, bury each other and their parents. They can ride bicycles, go skateboarding, ride a scooter or an EZ roller, go roller skating and play in the many parks. Brunswick County Parks and Recreation Department offers a variety of team sports to kids as well, as do the recreation departments of most towns. These include volleyball, tennis, Dixie Girls Softball, Dixie Boys Baseball, basketball, soccer, cheerleading, disc golf and sign up for football. Many visitors to Brunswick County, NC arrive during the summer months when they can take part in the variety of activities that are available during that time. They love the area for beaching, swimming, fishing, festivals, sailing, boating, kayaking – a plethora of outdoor activities.
