The days are flying by as Christmas approaches and people are busy getting ready for their own special celebrations. As you are doing this, don’t forget to enjoy each day. On Saturday, December 16, you can purchase those last minute decorations and gifts while enjoying the day at the same time. Just head into Shallotte, NC to the new Christmas Village in Mulberry Park at 123 Mulberry Street. From 11 Am until 3 PM you can visit 50 vendors and purchase holiday decorations, gifts, veggies, cider and more. Got an ugly Christmas sweater? Want to show it off? Like to run races? Check out the Southport Ugly Sweater 5K and Reindeer Run (a 1 mile walk/run) with or without antlers. The run begins Saturday, December 16 at 8 AM on Bay Street in Southport, NC, so signup at coastalraceproductions.com (use code Southport20). Coffee, hot chocolate and cookies will be available after the race and the event supports the NC Fourth of July Festival.
If you are yearning to attend just one more Christmas Parade, you are in luck. Bolivia, NC will hold its Christmas Parade beginning at 6 PM on Saturday, December 16. The parade will begin at the Brunswick County Government Center and follow Old Ocean Highway to Bolivia. Enjoy!
Halloween is more than a week way, but the hauntings have already begun! I’m sure you have noticed the spooky decorations that seem to have been popping up all by themselves. Fall festivals are continuing as well. They give us a chance to enjoy the lovely autumn weather in Brunswick County, NC. Tomorrow you can take part at the Fall Community Day and Fundraiser at Greenlands Farm in Bolivia, NC from 10 AM until 2 PM. There will be activities and games for the kids, farm animal rides, live music. a petting farm, an animal adoption fair by Brunswick County Animal Services, and more. funds raised will benefit the farm animal sanctuary as well as HOOF – a nonprofit organization for education about and for rescued farm animals.
Later in the day you can head out to Boiling Spring Lakes, NC to enjoy being scared at the BSL Haunted Hayride. The fun begins at 4 PM with the hayrides beginning at dark. You can wear your own costume and do some of the scaring yourself.

Another fun event taking place tomorrow is the Brunswick Plantation Arts & Crafts Fair in Calabash, NC. This event will be held in the clubhouse at 8 Brunswick Drive from 9 AM until 2 PM. You will find textile arts, baskets, jewelry, bird houses, gourds, stained glass items, pottery, soaps, wood turned items, photos, wreaths, ornaments and more. There will also be a bake sale to raise funds for local charities. Admission and parking are free.
Another weekend of fun festivities is ahead of us in Brunswick County, NC; and the Carolina blue skies and warm temperatures promise to continue throughout the weekend. With all the water in Brunswick County, NC, as well as offshore, one of the favorite fall activities involves bait, rods and reels and some of the best fishing happens in the fall. Because of this, fishing tournaments abound in the fall and this weekend is no exception. This weekend’s fishing tournament is a tournament with a twist, however. The fishing will not be done from piers or from boats in the ocean. The Bluefish Bonanza on Bald Head island, NC is a surfcasting tournament. Check it out.
Last weekend you may have participated in the NC Oyster Festival – an annual event in Ocean Isle Beach, NC. Get ready to enjoy again this Saturday and Sunday, this time in Holden Beach, NC at the annual NC Festival by the Sea.
You will have another second chance in Calabash, NC. Last week was Pumpkin Day at Indigo Farms – this Saturday from 10 – AM until 2 PM, you can enjoy Pick Your Own Pumpkin Day. The event will include Stock Pig Racing as well as hayrides – so bring the whole family.
