FALL FESTIVITIES

Another weekend of fun festivities is ahead of us in Brunswick County, NC; and the Carolina blue skies and warm temperatures promise to continue throughout the weekend. With all the water in Brunswick County, NC, as well as offshore, one of the favorite fall activities involves bait, rods and reels and some of the best fishing happens in the fall. Because of this, fishing tournaments abound in the fall and this weekend is no exception. This weekend’s fishing tournament is a tournament with a twist, however. The fishing will not be done from piers or from boats in the ocean. The Bluefish Bonanza on Bald Head island, NC is a surfcasting tournament. Check it out.

Last weekend you may have participated in the NC Oyster Festival – an annual event in Ocean Isle Beach, NC. Get ready to enjoy again this Saturday and Sunday, this time in Holden Beach, NC at the annual NC Festival by the Sea.

You will have another second chance in Calabash, NC. Last week was Pumpkin Day at Indigo Farms – this Saturday from 10 – AM until 2 PM, you can enjoy Pick Your Own Pumpkin Day. The event will include Stock Pig Racing as well as hayrides – so bring the whole family.

PUMPKINS N HAY N OYSTERS, OH MY!

Ahhhhhhhhhh. Fall has arrived to Brunswick County, NC. Sunny days, cool breezes, open window nights with the sounds of crickets and night birds, glorious sunrises and sunsets, sparkling ocean waters, sandy beaches for walking, family oriented festivals – we have the best of it all. The upcoming weekend promises to be beautiful and is filled with outdoor events for adults and families. What adult among us does not recall the fun of fall hayrides? You can relive them this weekend – and in Boiling Spring Lakes, NC, you can experience a hayride with a twist:  Boiling Spring Lakes Haunted Hayride

Fall and oysters go together like – well – fall and oysters. Add to that a festival and you couldn’t ask for anything better –  especially when it is happening in Ocean Isle Beach, NC and includes an oyster shucking contest and a road race.

WEEKEND!

Hi folks! I’m ba-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-ck! Due to technical difficulties I’ve been off the blog site for most of September. But remember, you can always find information at our website (www.insiderinfo.us) or on our facebook page: Southport, Oak Island, Bald Head Island, NC – Insiderinfo.

The gorgeous Fall weather always brings a plethora of outdoor events and festivals to Brunswick County, NC and this weekend is no exception. No exception, that is, except for the weather forecast. The temperatures are lovely, but we seem to be getting our sunshine in liquid form. Saturday’s line-up did include the annual, exciting Intercultural Festival, however, it has been canceled this year due to the weather. Another wonderful event that is scheduled is the Southport Wooden Boat Show which is scheduled to take place rain or shine.

Stewart’s Hardware in Southport has announced a Fall Fun Day from 9 AM until 5 PM and the Oak Island Moose Lodge has planned an Oktoberfest from 4:30 PM until 8:30 PM. You may want to check with them directly to be sure these events will be taking place. There is always music in the evenings at the Yacht Basin Eatery and at Fishy Fishy Cafe, both in Southport, NC.

On Sunday, the First Bank Oktoberfest 15K & 5K is scheduled in Brunswick Forest in Leland NC. Then there is always a good thing to do on a rainy day – take in a movie. Between Surf Cinemas, in Southport, NC and Coastal Stadium 10, in Shallotte, NC, you are sure to find a movie you have been wanting to see.

FALL HIKING

Fall can be one of the most spectacular times of the year for walking and hiking. When you think of hiking in North Carolina, your mind likely goes to the Blue Ridge Mountains where the views are nothing short of breathtaking. For some of us, the flatter trails are more favorable, more accessible, and their scenery can be just as intriguing in a different way. There are some absolutely lovely places to hike right here in Brunswick County, NC. Here are a few to consider.

Brunswick Nature Park in Town Creek, NC offers walking and hiking trails, horse riding trails and kayaking trails: (http://southport.insiderinfo.us/sports-fitness-parks/parks/brunswick-nature-park/profile/)

At the Ev-Henwood Nature Preserve in Leland, NC you will find 10 miles of hiking trails:

FALL DECORATING – and – A FESTIVAL

Fall is upon us in all it’s glory of trees changing color, incredible sunsets, cooler temperatures and sunny days. Fall festivals are in full swing and Halloween is approaching with it’s parties, trick-or-treating, ghoulish costumes and silly ones. Before long Thanksgiving will arrive and many of us will get together with friends and family to celebrate each other. If you are thinking of decorating for this colorful season, remember that even though you can find decorative seasonal items in national chain stores, there are many independent, locally owned stores in the area where you can find unique decorations for the exterior as well as the interior of your home.

Bridgers Old Fashioned General Store in Southport, NC is a great locally owned shop with goodies galore and more: (http://southport.insiderinfo.us/shop/southport/bridgers-old-fashioned-general-store/profile/)

At Sunset River Marketplace in Calabash, NC you will find seasonal decorations as well as decorations for year round display in your home – all made by area artists and artisans: (http://oceanislebeach.insiderinfo.us/shop/gallery/sunset-river-marketplace/profile/)
