Saturday is coming and there are also several interesting and fun activities coming where you can spend your day if you so choose. With all the water surrounding us there is bound to be boating of all kinds Рfrom sailing to motor boating to fishing boating and more. What we hope for is that everyone in charge of these boats practices safe boating. If you have a boat or are anticipating getting one, you can do your part by taking the U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Safe Boating Course. The course will take place on Saturday at the Brunswick County EMS Headquarters, 40 Naber Drive in Shallotte, NC from 8 AM until 4 PM. The course applies to powerboats, sailboats, paddle craft and PWcs Рin essence, all recreational watercraft. Registration is required by contacting Dawn Smith at:  BoatingSafely@ ec.rr.com. The fee can be paid online with PayPal or at the door with cash or check. Information can be found at: http://www.Flotilla10-05.org.

THE WEARIN’ O’ THE GREEN

On March 17, St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated all over the world. If you stop to think about it, that is quite an amazing statement. I believe it is the only holiday associated with a saint that has traveled so far. It’s a bit like Christmas in being celebrated by Christians and non-Christians alike, and fondly referred to as ‘St. Paddy’s Day’ it is far from a holy celebration. However, it is a time that brings people together and that is always a good thing. Parades celebrate many things Irish like harps, shamrocks, leprechauns, bagpipes, Irish dancers and more. Many Irish pubs have celebrations that include Irish food and drinks. If you are planning to take part, you can check out a few here from which to choose.

Slainte, In Southport, NC (http://southport.insiderinfo.us/nightlife/entertainment/slainte/profile/)

will begin celebrating at 7 AM with a Kegs and Eggs Breakfast. If that’s a bit early for you, try the Full Irish Breakfast with Jameson Toast at 9 AM. Other Irish specials of the day include the ubiquitous Corned Beef and Cabbage, Shepherd’s Pie, and Irish Car Bomb Cupcakes. Music by the Dave Higgins Band will begin at 6 PM with special drinks available such as Harp, Guinness and Pickle Backs.

At Fibber McGees in Sunset Beach, NC

Irish and regular Karaoke will be provided by Cheryl Z and drinks will include Green Draft Beer and Irish Drinks.

SUPER BOWL SUNDAY

Super Bowl Sunday is one of the most exciting days of the year for nearly everyone in the US. The grocery stores are full of customers buying beer and sodas, snacks like chips and pretzels, ingredients for chili and casseroles. Many of you are planning parties in your homes or planning to attend parties at a friend or relative’s house. This year the east coast meets the west coast somewhere sort of in the middle which makes it difficult for fans of both sides to get to the actual event. Fortunately (or not, depending on how you look at it) there likely will not be a TV station that is not broadcasting the event. You may prefer to watch it at home by yourself, but if you are not attending a party and would rather share the excitement with others, there are a number of places where you can go to watch the game. Here are a few suggestions:

Slainte, in Southport, NC is having a Super Bowl Party. (http://southport.insiderinfo.us/nightlife/entertainment/slainte/profile/)

Chasers Sports Bar & Grill, in Oak Island, NC has a number of TVs which you can watch. (http://southport.insiderinfo.us/nightlife/oak-island/chasers-sports-bar-and-grill/profile/)

Fibber McGees, in Sunset Beach, NC has a great menu and a large selection of beers. (http://oceanislebeach.insiderinfo.us/nightlife/sunset-beach/fibber-mcgees/profile/)
