What do airplanes and classic cars have in common? Both will be taking part in the Wings & Wheels event being held at the Cape Fear Regional Jetport in Oak Island, NC on Saturday, April 12 beginning at 8 AM. At this free event you can check out as many as 75 classic cars (as well as participating aircraft) and you can vote for your favorite car. You can have a pancake breakfast starting at 8:30 AM until 11 AM for just $5.00 and the Civil Air Patrol will hold a “burger burn” from noon until 3 PM.
Pilots can participate in a spot landing contest in which they will attempt to put their wheels in a designated area upon landing. Awards will also be given for the best high wing plane, the best low wing plane, and the best home built aircraft. Awards will be given to car owners in the following categories:
Best Stock and Best Modified 1941 or earlier
Best Stock and Best Modified 1942 or later
Top 20 cars
Howie’s Choice (Howie is the director of the airport)
Best of Show
You can participate in a 50-50 raffle, and a Chinese Auction and enjoy the informational displays by businesses located at the airport which include: Oak Island Aviation, Hertz Car Rentals, Cape Fear Airworks, Brunswick Air, Dutchman Creek Bait and Tackle Shop, Coastal Skydive and High Tide Helicopters. All funds raised will go to youth activity programs sponsored by the Experimental Aircraft Association and the Civil Air Patrol.
