CELEBRATE INDEPENDENCE II

Friday begins the fun anew with Beach Day on Oak Island, NC with rides, games food and tournaments like Bocce Ball, Volleyball, Horse Shoes and Corn Hole in the morning at Middleton Park Soccer Field where registration for events takes place as well. At noon, the Sand Sculpture Contest begins, followed by a Skate Competition at the Kevin Bell Skate Park at 2 PM. 6 PM brings a concert by the Holiday Band and a shag contest. Fireworks at 9 PM round out the day at the Oak Island Pier.

On Saturday, 8 AM begins the registration at the waterfront in Southport, NC, for the children’s games. From 10 AM until 2 PM the Fire Fighters Freedom Competition & Apparatus Expo can be enjoyed. The  competitive events include the barrel push, bucket brigade, ladder climb, command post and tanker tug. Arts and Crafts are available in Franklin Square Park on Saturday from 10 AM until 6 PM, on Sunday from 12 Noon until 6 PM and on Monday from 10 AM until 6 PM. You can enjoy musical entertainment at Waterfront Park on Saturday, Sunday and Monday from 1 PM until 10 PM with a street dance on Sunday from 7 PM until 10 PM. Other events throughout the day on Sunday include the Brunswick Concert Band, tours of the Old Smithville Burying Ground, voter registration, a naturalization ceremony and a flag retirement ceremony.

A Pancake Breakfast begins Monday morning at Trinity United Methodist Church, from 7 AM until 10:30 AM followed by a flag raising ceremony at 10 :30 AM and the parade at 11 AM. This day also includes classic cars, a regatta, pro wrestling, a boat raffle drawing, an art raffle drawing at Franklin Square Gallery and – finally – fireworks beginning at 9 PM and followed by a musical performance.
