DOWNTOWN SOUTHPORT – IT’S NOT JUST FOR VISITORS

I recently heard that a local said she never shops in downtown Southport. It made me think that maybe there are locals who are not aware of the many kinds of shops that are available there. Most of these shops are locally owned and the owners make their livings from business in their shops. So, I would like to talk here about just some of the variety of shops you will find – especially now that we are so close to Christmas and, surely, many of you are not quite finished with your Christmas shopping. Since it is nearly Christmas, I’ll start with The Christmas House on Moore Street. This wonderful shop, open year round, is filled with decorating ideas. You might need just the right package decorations as you finish up wrapping presents. Just stop at the library across the street and take a look at the lovely tree that was decorated by employees of, and decorations from, The Christmas House.

At Howe Street Purveyors in the 600 block of North Howe Street, you can find those special cookie cutters you have been searching for by stopping at Cat on a Whisk. You are sure to find other kitchen necessities (or gifts)  in their  collection as well. While there, you can check out Shoefly for shoes, fashions and accessories. Why not stop at Loco Jo’s for lunch? At Uncorked by the Sea Wine Shop & Gallery, you can pick up a special wine gift or two. Then stop at Renee’s Fine Jewelry for your jewelry purchases.

By the way – you can find fine jewelry at Cape Fear Jewelers on Moore Street and the Carolina Jewelry Exchange in the Towngate Crossing Shopping Center in the 700 block of North Howe Street. And – you can find wine and accessories at the Silver Coast Winery Tasting Room on South Howe Street and at The Wine Rack on West Brown Street.
Hey – you men – you know you are known as last minute Christmas gift shoppers. If you are looking for gifts for the females in your lives, be sure to check out Boo & Roo’s on Moore Street and Ropa, Etc. on North Howe Street for lovely ladies clothing and accessories.
These are just a few of the offerings you will find in downtown Southport, NC. In addition to the antique shops there is a needleworks store, a toy store, art galleries, sportswear stores, decorating shops, a shoe store, gift shops and more. Don’t forget to check out the Olde Southport Village Shoppes.
